Role Overview

The SMTS Silicon Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the Strategic Silicon Solution Group Full Chip Physical Design team. In this position, you will work on full-chip designs, ensuring accuracy in timing analysis, synthesis, and physical verification. You will also lead teams, collaborating with engineers, architects, and CAD teams to achieve first-pass silicon success and ensure high-quality chip designs.

Key Responsibilities

Full Chip Physical Design

Lead and contribute to the design of full-chip physical layouts, including die size estimation, floor-planning, power planning, and IO ring creation. You will ensure package compatibility and analyze ESD requirements to meet design goals.

Timing Analysis & Optimization

Perform static timing analysis, implement constraints, and ensure cross-talk and timing closure for all blocks and subsystems. You will work on RTL to GDSII flow to achieve PPA (Power, Performance, Area) targets and develop optimization strategies for low-power designs.

Low Power Design & Power Signoff

Implement low-power techniques such as clock gating and power gating, ensuring power consumption is minimized while meeting performance targets. You will be responsible for power signoff and static/dynamic power analysis at the chip and subsystem levels.

Automation & Methodology Development

Develop and implement design methodologies to enhance PPA and ensure high-quality design environments. You will also work on automating design flows, reducing errors and improving overall efficiency for SOC development.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer/Electronics/Electrical Engineering.
  • 14+ years of experience in full-chip physical design, including RTL to GDSII implementation.
  • Experience with industry-standard tools like ICC2/Fusion Compiler, Primetime, Calibre, and Ansys Redhawk.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to mentor and guide design engineers.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in leading full-chip projects and teams, providing technical leadership.
  • Hands-on experience with 5nm and below technologies.
  • Strong scripting skills in Shell, Python, Perl, TCL, and UNIX.
  • Expertise in power design/implementation and timing closure for critical subsystems like CPU, graphics, and multimedia.
