Role Overview

The High Performance Compute role at Hewlett-Packard involves managing Linux clusters, focusing on system administration, networking, and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in supporting HPC clusters and working with cutting-edge technologies. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring smooth operations of high-performance systems, while also collaborating with various teams to drive innovation in edge-to-cloud computing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Linux-based high-performance clusters (SUSE or Redhat Linux).
  • Manage and troubleshoot issues related to system hardware, software, networking, and security measures.
  • Ensure system uptime and performance by implementing preventive maintenance and resolving outages quickly.
  • Work with high-speed networking technologies like InfiniBand, 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet, and tools like File Catalyst.
  • Support HPC cluster management tools such as PBS and SLURM and monitor system resources using queuing software.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and technical processes for the team and end-users.
  • Provide end-to-end problem ownership and technical expertise, taking a proactive role in case management.

Required Experience

  • 6+ years of experience in managing Linux clusters (SUSE or Redhat).
  • 3+ years of experience supporting High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters.
  • Solid understanding of high-performance cluster administration, including troubleshooting and performance tuning.
  • Experience with job schedulers such as PBS or SLURM is preferred.
  • Strong command of Linux system administration, networking, storage, and security.
  • Ability to work in a 24×7 environment, including rotating shifts.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with InfiniBand and 10/40 Gigabit Ethernet networks.
  • Familiarity with large-scale storage systems like GPFS.
  • Experience in scripting languages to automate tasks.
  • Technical documentation and training skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and lead technical discussions.
