Job Purpose

The Operating Command Engineer II is responsible for monitoring system conditions and responding to incidents, ensuring the highest level of system availability. This role involves managing the first level of alerts, troubleshooting system issues, and escalating more complex problems to the appropriate teams. The engineer will play a key role in incident resolution and process improvement to maintain seamless operations across RealPage’s production environments.

Primary Responsibilities

1. System Monitoring & Incident Management

  • Monitor real-time system conditions and take immediate action to resolve or escalate issues according to set procedures.
  • Respond to incidents, prioritize based on severity, and ensure maximum system availability.
  • Lead major incident resolutions by coordinating relevant resources and guiding teams to next steps.

2. Documentation & Ticketing

  • Document incidents and activities through RealPage’s ticketing system, ensuring compliance with operational standards.
  • Assist the Helpdesk and internal customers with phone support and user access management.
  • Maintain and update standard operating procedures and knowledgebase articles.

3. Technical Support & Collaboration

  • Work with Product Support to investigate and resolve customer complaints effectively.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on system performance, incident resolution, and technical investigations.

4. Tools & Platform Knowledge

  • Utilize monitoring tools such as Microsoft SCOM and Solarwinds for system performance tracking.
  • Provide support for basic Linux commands and cloud-hosted applications as needed.
  • Support Active Directory management, user provisioning, and special projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise: Experience with Microsoft Server, VMWare, cloud server instances, and basic Linux commands.
  • Certifications: Preference for CCNA, AWS, or CompTIA certifications; ITIL certification is also a plus.
  • Incident Management: Ability to lead technical calls, manage major incidents, and document steps to resolution.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities to diagnose system issues and correlate alerts for impact assessment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication for internal and external interactions.
  • Multi-tasking: Proven ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.

Work Schedule & Availability

  • The NOC operates 24x7x365, so availability to work a flexible shift schedule is required, including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
  • This position requires occasional lifting and moving of computer equipment.
